Community Grant Scheme 2004

Thanks to funding from Scottish Natural Heritage, the Crown Estate and Aberdeenshire Council we awarded nearly £11,000 to  the following projects in 2004 :-

Sandhaven and Pitullie Harbour Trust Ltd.  

Sandhaven

Purchase of two new safety ladders for harbour wall, to allow safe access.

Moray Waste Busters

Waterford Recycling Centre, Forres

Purchase of portable display boards and contribution towards cost of new signage, to raise public awareness of the need for recycling.

The Marine Connection

Findochty

Education Workshops, visits to schools etc. by Findochty based representative, using slides, videos and a life-size model dolphin to teach about the improtance of protecting the marine life around the MF.

Caithness Countryside Volunteers

Wick

Cetacean Awareness Workshop, to be held at Lybster

Primary 4, South School

Wick

Wildlife Day Trip (bus and boat) for Primary 4 class to study the MF.  (Note: this class will also take part in the Ranger led "Beachwatch" beach clean later in the year)

Dingwall Youth Sub-Aqua Club

Dingwall

To purchase a dive boat and enable development of a full training programme.
(provisionally agreed only  subject to other major funding being secured)

Portsoy and District Angling Association

Provision of 5 x fishing platforms at Loch Soy for disabled anglers (£500) plus contribution to re-stocking loch (£500).

Kinloss Crafty Cool Kids Club

 

Materials to build a "shipwreck" climbing frame with murals of dolphins, seals etc, to enhance knowledge about the MF

The Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society

Spey Bay

posters showing wildlife of firth and outline of Dolphin Space Programme code, to highlight what there is to see as well as dolphins, educate visitors about the code and help take pressure off DSP operators.

Deveron, Bogie, and Isla Rivers Trust

Huntly

Provision of larch logs etc as revetment to prevent further collapse of banks of Aultmore Burn and thus prevent loss of fish spawning habitat.  To be done as an environment project for children from Gordon Schools, Huntly and with volunteers from BTCV.  Resulting works to be used as demonstration area for farmers and landowners.
